Key Detector 2.0 · 28 Sep 2026

No audio detected?

Get back to a usable capture in three checks.

Written for Key Detector 2.0. Chords, charts and practice sequences are beta: check them by ear. Images use simulated data; they illustrate the interface and are not evidence of audio accuracy. The Chrome Web Store may still be serving an earlier version for a few days after release.

Before you start

An ordinary browser tab with audible music.

Steps

  1. Check the source: return to the song tab and press Play. Avoid browser settings, extension pages and the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Reopen Key Detector from that tab and retry: Chrome only lets it hear the tab where it was opened, so in the side panel click the Key Detector icon while on that tab. Keep it open until the result arrives; closing it ends the capture.
  3. If Studio says to refresh, reload the YouTube page and start playback again. Try another unprotected source or a local audio file if capture still fails.

Expected result

Capture starts or you have an alternative way to analyze the song.

If it does not work

DRM/protected content can block capture. Do not disable browser security. Silence, speech and percussion-only passages may not give a stable key.

Access

Capture help is available to everyone. Free file analysis: once every 7 days.
