Online metronome

Set the tempo with the slider or the buttons, choose the beats per bar and press Start. The first beat of each bar is accented, and the timing comes from the browser’s audio clock, so it doesn’t drift.

How to use it

Online metronome

  1. Pick the tempo

Drag the slider, use − and + for one BPM at a time, or type the exact number.

  2. Choose the beats per bar

4 for most pop, rock and worship songs, 3 for waltzes, 2 for marches and 6 for 6/8 ballads.

  3. Practise with it

Start the metronome and play. Slow the tempo down for hard passages and raise it a few BPM at a time.

How to practise with a metronome

Start a difficult passage 10 to 20 percent slower than the song and play it cleanly three times before raising the tempo by two to five BPM. The accented first beat tells you where each bar starts, so you always know where you are.

Don’t know the tempo of the song? Tap it on the tap BPM page or drop the audio file into the analyzer.

FAQ

Questions

Is this metronome accurate?

Yes. Each click is scheduled ahead of time on the Web Audio clock, the same clock the browser uses to play sound, so the beat stays steady even when the page is busy.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in any modern browser on Android and iPhone. On an iPhone, turn off silent mode to hear the clicks.

What tempo range does it cover?

From 30 to 300 BPM.

How do I set 6/8?

Choose 6 beats per bar. Many players feel 6/8 in two: for that, choose 2 beats per bar at half the tempo.
